July Newsletter

Hi PFP Community,

We hope you all are enjoying the Summer. After a brief (2-year) hiatus, we are excited to announce the return of in-person events for our Raleigh and Dallas chapters! Along with our upcoming Betterment Book Club and PFP Serves Volunteer Days, we are also bringing back our in-person networking pop ups in Raleigh and Dallas.

This month, we have some highlights to share from the past few months along with a list of upcoming events to save the date and get excited for.

We look forward to seeing you all soon!

-The PFP Team

Networking Pop Up

After a small soft-launch networking event in June, we’re planning a return to bi-monthly  in-person networking events starting on September 22nd in both Raleigh and Dallas.

For these events, plan to come and go as you please. Our goal is to connect like-minded professionals who believe putting people first is not just the right thing to do, but also great for business. As we move forward with our networking events, we’re specifically looking to hear from our community on how to best maximize these events for our attendees and how priorities for networking has changed since the pandemic.

Check out our Event Calendar to see what all we have planned through September!

Betterment Book Club

The PFP Betterment Book Club met in May to discuss Don Miguel Ruiz’s The Four Agreements. Conversation centered around each of the titular agreements: Be Impeccable With Your Word, Don’t Take Anything Personally, Don’t Make Assumptions, and Always Do Your Best. We also discussed Ruiz’s theory that by mastering the four agreements you master your emotions and maintain control of your behaviors. Control of emotions and behaviors is a key tenet of EQ development.

We followed up in June with Robin Sharma’s The Saint, The Surfer, and the CEO, which highlights the importance of things like meditation, gratitude, helping others and positive thoughts in the context of a story. The groups discussed which of the 3 guides (saint, surfer, or CEO) we identified with, and how we can put some of their wisdom into practice.

We’re looking forward to our last installment in our Self Discovery series on Tuesday, July 19th at 8pm EST. with How to Fail at Almost Anything and Still Win Big by Scott Adams. It’s not too late to pick up a copy and join in for another great discussion! You can register at the link here.

PFP Serves

On April 29th, #PFPServes finally took flight!

After almost two and a half years of planning, and a global pandemic getting in the way of bringing PFP members together in person - we finally made it happen. Two locations, Dallas and Raleigh, were able to set up two separate volunteering events to support the local food banks in their communities.

In Dallas, we were able to partner with the folks at New Friendship Baptist Church and the North Texas Food Bank to pack and deliver meals via a drive-thru mobile pantry. It was such a meaningful experience to be able to see the impact on those families right in front of you. We had an incredible time and made so many new friends that we can't wait to get back for the next one. A huge thanks goes out to those folks who made our PFP Volunteers feel so welcomed. Founded in 1982, the North Texas Food Bank supports 13 counties across the Dallas Metroplex. As they just celebrated 40 years in service, the NTFB has expanded from distributing 400,000 pounds of food a year to distributing 125 million meals in its last fiscal year – more annual meals than ever in its history – through its Feeding Network of more than 200 Partner Agencies. If you'd like to get involved and volunteer please see the list of opportunities here!

In Raleigh, we partnered with the Food Bank of Eastern & Central North Carolina to work a volunteer shift in their distribution warehouse. The bank services 34 different counties with 6 different branches and warehouses. If you'd like to get involved and volunteer for one of the multiple events offered please visit their volunteer site here!

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support the launch of #PFPServes and we can't wait to launch our next events! Mark your calendars!!
